1. Définition

Le Present Continuous (ou Present Progressive) est un temps verbal utilisé pour parler d’une action en cours de déroulement au moment où l’on parle.

1. Structure

Le Present Continuous se forme avec :
        Sujet + verbe “to be” (au présent) + verbe en -ing

        Forme affirmative :
– I am eating.
– She is reading.
– They are playing.

Forme négative :
– I am not eating.
– He is not sleeping.
– We are not working.

Forme interrogative :
– Are you coming?
– Is she dancing?
– What are they doing?

• Emplois du Present Continuous

1. ) Action en cours au moment où l’on parle
   – She is writing a letter.
   – They are watching TV now.
2. ) Action temporaire
   – I am living with my uncle this month.
   – He is studying hard these days.
3. ) Projet ou arrangement dans un futur proche
   – We are meeting our teacher tomorrow.
   – She is travelling next week.
4. Formation du verbe en -ing

Règles générales :
– Ajouter -ing à la base verbale : play → playing
– Si le verbe se termine par -e, on enlève le -e : write → writing
– Si le verbe est monosyllabique et se termine par consonne-voyelle-consonne, on double la dernière consonne : run → running
